Awards Council

The Awards Council’s scope of activities is focused on ICST’s excellence recognition mechanisms, procedures and activities through the Awards Program.

The Awards Council provides recommendations in the areas of:

  • Determining the scope, defining the operating mechanisms and monitoring the evaluation and selection processes of the ICST Awards Program;
  • Identifying additional objective and transparent selection criteria to extend Special Awards to individuals with exceptional contributions to, or achievements in, ICT related technical areas within or outside the purview of ICST activities.

Gabriel M. Silberman

Gabriel M. Silberman - Vice Chair

Gabby Silberman is Senior Vice President and Director of CA Labs. He is responsible for building CA's research and innovation capacity across the business, in collaboration with Development, Technical Services, and Support, and leveraging leading-edge research at universities around the world. CA Labs leverages the talents of CA researchers worldwide and funds related academic research to support and further establish innovation in the company's key growth areas. CA Labs' research work complements the existing research and development teams within CA.

Gabby joined CA in 2005, bringing with him more than 25 years of academic and industrial research experience. He joined CA from IBM, where he was program director for the company's Centers for Advanced Studies (CAS). There, he was responsible for developing and adapting the CAS model for IBM research and development laboratories worldwide. Previously, Gabby was a manager and researcher at IBM's T.J. Watson Research Center where he led exploratory and development efforts, including work in the Deep Blue chess project.

Gabby began his career in academia as a faculty member in computer science at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. He was a visiting professor at Carnegie Mellon University, and serves on academic advisory boards at several universities and research institutes around the world. Gabby was a Council Member-at-Large of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and serves on editorial boards as well as conference organizing and technical program committees. He is also a member of the International Federation of Information Processing Working Group 10.3, and a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Computer Society.

Gabby earned bachelor of science and master of science degrees in computer science from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in computer science from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
