Scientific Council
The Scientific Council is ICST’s advisory body of scientific community leaders providing strategic advice on matters of technical and scientific vision, direction and activities as well as policies for research promotion and excellence recognition.
These include but are not limited to:
- Promoting growth and advancement of ICT technologies.
- Supporting effective transition of ideas to industry through innovation and technology transfer.
- Promoting education and social benefits of ICT technologies.
- Developing IT technologies for improving information exchange.
- Maximizing the support of and participation of members in the advancement of science.
The Scientific Council provides feedback to the Council Chair regarding the operation of the various Functional Councils in response to queries from Functional Councils through the respective Vice-Chair. If deemed necessary the Chair of the Scientific Council can request additional Scientific Council members to provide advice and guidance on any technical activity of the organization independent of the Scientific Council under which the activity is performed.
The Scientific Council consists of the Vice-Chairs, providing strategic advice on specific functional areas of ICST activities, and can have other members, appointed by the Chair of the Scientific Council as per alternative functional requirements of the various institutional activities. The Scientific Council is represented by the Chair of the Scientific Council.

The Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering (ICST) is a professional society that sponsors research, innovation and technology transfer to harness and maximize the benefits and impact of ICT in all sectors of human society. ICST views the advancement of ICT as the axis of the next technological and societal revolution and it aims to create a global, grass-roots organisation of research communities in diverse technical and geographical areas representing the academic, research, regulatory and business sectors.
Mission:
ICST embraces web technologies to promote democracy, transparency and quality in science and innovation and to conduct activities that empower its members to succeed through direct participation as well as providing opportunities for objective recognition. With its universal outreach, ICST provides an effective and innovative platform for the ICT community where strategic partnerships are formed, research collaborations are enabled and business opportunities are created. By bringing together all members of the knowledge triangle, ICST is in a unique position to shape the global innovation paradigm.
Activities:
A wide array of technical and scientific activities falls under the ICST umbrella:
- Over 70 annual scientific events worldwide – summits, conferences, workshops, symposia;
- An extensive publication portfolio – journals, books, proceedings and magazines;
- On-line tools and portals – social networking, multimedia sharing, collaboration;
- Digital libraries – articles, audio-video recordings;
- Recognition mechanisms – awards, lecture and seminar series;
- Technical and functional organizational units.
EAI Participation:
As a member of the European Alliance for Innovation (EAI), ICST provides the society tools and framework to support EAIs community to achieve its mission to foster innovation in the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector at all levels of the innovation cycle.
