SAT – Multimedia
The objective of the SAT on Multimedia is to foster the creation of networks of research and development centres aimed at joining their strengths and sharing their knowledge to increase the impact on the market of the research results of new multimedia technologies and services. To this aim, the SAT drives:
- the definition of joined market-oriented projects
- the organization of conferences for sharing research results
- the development of joined laboratories to experiment prototypes
The focus of the SAT is in any aspects related to multimedia, transmission, coding processing and related applications and systems.

Luigi Atzori - Committee Chair
DIEE - University of Cagliari
Luigi Atzori received the PhD degree in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Cagliari (Italy) in 1999, where is currently assistant professor in telecommunications. He teaches telecommunication networks and Internet protocols and conducts research in the following topics: video streaming, video/image post-processing, IP telephony playout buffering, QoS in multi-service networks. In these fields he has published more than 80 papers in international journals and conference proceedings. Dr Atzori has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship (2003-2004) to work on video streaming at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Arizona. He is an external evaluator for the European Commission within the Seventh Research Framework Programme (FP7) and for Italian National Research Projects for the MIUR (Ministry of Scientific Research and Education). He is editor of the ACM/Springer Wireless Networks Journal and has been the guest editor of the special issue on Multimedia over Ad-Hoc and Sensor Networks (Monet Journal, 2008), guest editor of the special issue on Mobile Video (Elsevier Image Communication Journal, 2007) and the editor of LNCS Visual Content Processing and Representation (Springer LNCS 3893). He is EiC of the ICST Transactions on Distributed Multimedia. He is involved in the organization of several international conferences on Multimedia Communications and Networking (MobiMedia, VLBV, ICIP, Packet Video). He is member of IEEE, of the Multimedia Communications Technical Committee (MMTC) and of the ICST.
