Student Innovation
“The Next Chapter in the ICST Society – Nurturing the Creativity of Research and Innovation”
The objective of the Student Council is to provide leadership and strategy for the ICST Student Technology Forums (STFs) and encourage student participation in a Web 2.0 society for the promotion of student careers and contribution to an innovative society.
The STFs will develop with the support of the Society, which will provide the necessary organizational framework, dissemination and collaboration tools and services, to facilitate the global cooperation among student communities and serve the research advancement of their members.
Students participating in the STF will have direct access to the leading research institutions, industry bodies, government institutions and other actors relevant to science, innovation, business and technology transfer. This will enable students to participate and learn about how science impacts and is impacted by emerging ICT areas of human society.
Grassroots Participation
While there are no specific restrictions on the type of membership in STFs, it is expected that students will represent the majority of participants. STFs are organized in a way that encourages democratic participation and open discussion among members. Accordingly, events and meetings, publications and whitepapers, ideas and discussions are proposed and circulated by contemporary means through AGORA, a novel on-line participation system, bringing grassroots participation to student activities.
Organization and Management
STFs focus on the content and services relevant for students and young researchers in emerging ICT technology areas. Most of the organizational bodies of the STFs will be set-up using AGORA, representing the Society’s democratic participation system. Final approval for organizational positions is made by the Vice-Chair(s) of the Student Council.
Participate in the ICST Student Council
To fulfill the above goals and objectives, the ICST’s Student Council is now inviting proposals for organization of STFs and STF activities. The participation opportunities available include:
- Create and Chair a new STF for a specific technology area: Please fill out the application form in AGORA.
- Apply for a position in an existing STF: Please click on an STF for more information, or apply now.
- Student Ph.D. Forums: Present your cutting edge research at a society conference.
